I have exactly the same problem and roughly the same solution, the only difference for me, is certain headphone lead’s jack lead’s work half inserted into the socket and some work fully inserted into the socket, also if you have a double ended jack lead with the oppersite end inserted into a amp or some kind of device, you may need to manipulate it in the same way you did originally by moving the lead out slightly and and then back in until you get sound and without breaking the connection.
